Boostan of Omid and Rahmat

Overview

Boostan of Omid and Rahmat (بوستان امید و رحمت کردستان) is a charity in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan Province in Iran. This center was established in 2016, is managed by the board of directors, and is mainly funded by donations from the local community. Boostan houses 12 girls without guardians and helps 12 other children who are either orphaned and staying with far relatives or labor children. The 12 girls who are living in this center are traumatized by their difficult experiences and need psychological support. The center’s staff includes professionals like psychologists and social workers who continuously assess the health and needs of these children. Also, they pay special attention to the education of all supported children. Here are brief statistics about the children and their grades:

• Elementary schoolers: 16
• Middle Schoolers: 5
• High Schoolers: 2
• Number of children needing Special Education: 1

What actions have been taken by Golestan's donors up to this point?

In the summer of 2022, Golestan provided financial support and educational plans for Boostan of Hope and Mercy of Kurdistan (بوستان امید و رحمت کردستان) to accomplish the following goals:

• Teaching skills such as knitting, tailoring, and cooking
• Teaching art such as painting and puppet making
• Holding refresher classes for school courses such as elementary math, middle school math, and Arabic language
• Organizing educational and recreational trips
• Empowering girls with various handicaps/disabilities, including those with down syndrome
• Organizing physiotherapy and therapy sessions
• Buying sports equipment such as swimming suits and goggles

What are we planning to do?

We plan to continue our support and help to this trusted local organization in the city of Sanandaj. Our goal is to cover the essential expenses for these children to have a decent education. We aim to implement an extensive personalized educational program for every one of these girls, which will include the following:

• Buying school books, supplies, backpacks, shoes/clothing and school uniforms at the beginning of the school year
• Providing three refresher classes (کلاس های تقویتی) throughout the year, for exam preparation during the first/second school semesters, and summer sessions
• Registering the children above 14 in skill set classes (کلاس های مهارت آموزی) to help them learn practical skills that will prepare them for the future - for example, tailoring classes, mechanics, etc.
• Registering the students in extracurricular activities classes like art and sports classes to provide a chance for them to know and nurture their talents like normal children
• Supplying supplemental teaching resources, including a pack of story books to encourage a lifelong love of reading

Our estimates show that we need about $5,700 USD to fully cover the educational needs of Boostan’s children (See Education Campaign’s page for details). These children need your donation and support to get a decent education, to be able to nurture their talents and become financially independent and functional members of society when they grow up.
