Sepehr-e Roshan

Overview

Sepehr-e Roshan Charity, located in Arak, is the first quasi-family institution in the Markazi province, which was established in 2008. They support orphans and underprivileged girls from early ages through their adolescence. They have supported 40 girls since their establishment; 8 of them have got married, 4 have been able to start their own independent life, and the rest have gone back to their biological parents. Currently, they are taking care of 13 girls ranging from age 12 to 18. However, due to the difficult economic situation, they are also providing some support for their older girls. Also, they support 11 vulnerable children outside of the orphanage. The institute provides necessary living facilities to underprivileged girls, so they enjoy a healthy life.

As mentioned, Sepehre-Roshan is supporting 24 vulnerable children. Here are brief statistics about these children and their grades:

• Elementary Schoolers: 9
• Middle Schoolers: 10
• High Schoolers-Konkoories: 3
• College-Students: 3

What actions have been taken by Golestan's donors up to this point?

In the summer of 2022, Golestan did support the education of these children in a pilot program. We provided financial support for Sepehr-e-Roshan to do the following for these 24 children:

• Registering these vulnerable children in 53-person extracurricular activity classes, including art and sport summer classes, to nurture their talents and feel like normal children.
• Registering children above 14 years old in a series of 6-person skillset improvement classes to prepare them for an independent life after leaving the orphanage
• Holding a series of 32-person refresher classes for the school courses which these children find difficult and require additional assistance with.
• Purchasing 71 help books for these children.

What are we planning to do?

Due to the complex economic situation, Sepehreh Roshan, which is run by donations from local donors, is hardly able to cover its basic needs like food and clothing for these children. This leads to neglecting the educational needs of these 24 Children. We are planning to help this trusted local organization in the city of Arak to cover these expenses. We are planning to continue an extensive personalized educational program for each of these children which will include the following:

• Buying school books, supplies, backpacks, shoes/clothing and school uniforms at the beginning of the school year
• Providing three refresher classes (کلاس های تقویتی) throughout the year, for exam preparation during the first/second school semesters, and summer sessions
• Registering the children above 14 in skill set classes (کلاس های مهارت آموزی) to help them learn practical skills that will prepare them for the future - for example, tailoring classes, mechanics, etc.
• Registering the students in extracurricular activities classes like art and sports classes to provide a chance for them to know and nurture their talents like normal children
• Supplying supplemental teaching resources, including a pack of story books to encourage a lifelong love of reading

Our estimates show that we need about $6,400 USD to fully cover the educational needs of Sepehr-e Roshan’s children (See Education Campaign’s page for the details).
