Overview

Maryam Charity, located in Neyshabour, Khorasan, started its work back in 2004, supporting underrepresented kids/orphans of the 6-13 age group. The charity is run by a board of trustees and has supported 210 kids since its establishment with the help of community donations. The charity’s mission is to support children both emotionally and financially with the help of dedicated personnel, including child therapists and instructors. The charity currently has 23 girls housed in a central facility, and a second facility for children has been constructed recently, and is scheduled to be opened in the near future.

What actions have been taken by Golestan's donors up to this point?

In the summer of 2022, Golestan supported the education of these children in a pilot program. We provided financial support for Maryam Charity to register the 23 children in 75 person extra-curricular activity classes, including a variety of art and sports summer classes to nurture their talents and feel like normal children.

What are we planning to do?

We are planning to continue an extensive personalized educational program for each of these children, which will include the following:

• Buying school books, supplies, backpacks, shoes/clothing and school uniforms at the beginning of the school year
• Providing three refresher classes (کلاس های تقویتی) throughout the year, for exam preparation during the first/second school semesters, and summer sessions
• Registering the children above 14 in skill set classes (کلاس های مهارت آموزی) to help them learn practical skills that will prepare them for the future - for example, tailoring classes, mechanics, etc.
• Registering the students in extracurricular activities classes like art and sports classes to provide a chance for them to know and nurture their talents like normal children
• Supplying supplemental teaching resources, including a pack of story books to encourage a lifelong love of reading
