Bani Mehr-e Javdan

Overview

Bani Mehr-e Javdan is a charity in Jiroft located in the province of Kerman. This center was established in 1987 (previously known as “Samen Health Charity Foundation”) and is mostly run by donations made by the local community. In 2004, their orphanage house began its activities in a rental building by providing service to 25 girls. Since then, the charity started to construct two orphanage houses (for boys and girls separately). The girls’ building was completed in 2017 and currently houses 21 girls; the boys’ orphanage house was completed in 2021 and houses 10 boys. In their orphanage houses, kids are emotionally and financially supported until they become independent. The charity also helps 211 poor families, mostly located in far rural areas, by providing food, medicine, and financial assistance to better take care of their children.

As mentioned, Bani Mehr is supporting 61 vulnerable children. Here are brief statistics about these children and what grades they are in:

• Elementary Schoolers: 31
• Middle Schoolers: 15
• High Schoolers: 15

What actions have been taken by Golestan's donors up to this point?

In the summer of 2022, Golestan did support the education of these children in a pilot program. We provided financial support for Bani Mehr to do the following for these 61 children:

• Registering these vulnerable children in 76 person-extracellular activity classes, including art and sports summer classes, to nurture their talents and feel like normal children.
• Registering children above 14 years old in an 18-person-skill set improvement series of classes so that they become readier for the time leaving the orphanage and become independent.
• Holding 108 person-series of refresher classes for the school courses that these children have problems in.
• Purchasing 103 help books for these children.

What are we planning to do?

We are planning to continue an extensive personalized educational program for each of these children which will include the following:

• Buying school books, supplies, stationeries, and backpacks at the beginning of the school year
• Buying shoes/clothing and school uniforms at the beginning of the school year for these children
• Having three series of refresher classes (کلاس های تقویتی) in courses which each of the students have problems with before the exams of the first school semester (امتحانات بهمن ماه) and second school semester (امتحانات شهریور), and during summer 2023
• Registering the children above 14 in skill set classes (کلاس های مهارت آموزی) to become readier for the time of their independence, for example: tailoring classes, mechanics, etc.
• Registering the students in extracurricular activities classes like art and sports classes to provide a chance for them to nurture and know their talents like a normal child
• Book Supplements Teaching Resources
• Buying a pack of story books to introduce them to the concept of reading

Our estimates show that we need about $16,000 USD to fully cover the educational needs of Mehr-e Javdan’s children.
